Graduated from Franklin County High School in 1982. Received B.S. in Music Education at Austin Peay State University.

I was the band director for Marshall County High School from 1989-1998 and at Lewisburg Middle School from 1989-2001. I was the band director for Hazel Green High School in Hazel Green, Alabama in 2002. I was the band director at North Middle School from 2003-2015. I have been the music teacher for Decherd Elementary since 2015.

I grew up in Estill Springs, Tennessee. I have two sisters and a brother. My wife Diane and I have been married since 1984 and have had countless
children of the four legged variety including dogs, cats, and horses as well as some of the finned variety.

My favorite pastimes include travelling new places and trying new foods with Mrs. Herring, sea kayaking (especially down in Florida), trail running
and hiking, and cycling.

I used to be very active as a trombonist and had the privilege of playing with The Temptations, The Four Tops, Lorna Luft, and Regis Philbin as well
as playing with numerous big bands, salsa bands, and my own jazz sextet and trio.

I love my job as a music teacher, but most of all I love the kids. The smiles and hugs make it all worth while.
